Private Family Retreat
The existing house looked awesome from the exterior but had a very choppy floor plan. The first goal was to create a kitchen for 5-6 (or more) people to work comfortably in. While at the same time connect this space to the adjacent living area. The second was to replace the existing chicken coop with a Club House for the cousins to enjoy.
- KLG opened up the wall between the Kitchen/ Dining Room and the Living Room. Took out the breakfast bar and overhead cabinets. Removed the pantry to align the new opening with the adjacent room.
- The new layout has a large island with two breakfast bars and ample work area for the many ’cooks’ that convene at the home during the extended family retreats. The lighting, appliances and finishes were all upgraded in this area as well as the adjacent Family Room. This new layout allows room for a couple of people to be cooking breakfast, another group preparing the luncheon picnic basket, kids and teens laughing over recent experiences while plugged into their tunes or games at the breakfast bar, the rest of the family can be spread throughout the Family Room on the ample array of seating options planning the days adventures….even the introverted teenager or two has a niche to snuggle into while still being part of the whole.
- The second part of the project was a new Club House for the 6 cousins and their friends to bunk when they visit the family retreat.
